Happy New Year! Both students and staff returned for the first of our two-day week after a nice long break. I truly can only speak for myself about this, but my two weeks didn't seem to fly by but actually seemed longer, as if I was out for a month. But, that is just me. I'm sure that others' experiences are different as to be expected. We continued our literacy and social studies tie-in by students reading a hybrid primary source. In this instance, it was a public domain article with a primary source embedded in the text. Students read the text then using their discernment, choose what they thought the text was mostly about (main idea). However, since this is an open-ended response, students had to justify their response with examples from the text. ![]()
Since our JA Biztown field trip is next month, we are using our time during science to prepare for the field trip. JA Biztown is a major undertaking and students will be eventually assigned specific jobs within a fictitious company. Until then, they will learn skills like writing checks, creating advertising for their companies, etc. As I had mentioned, it is a big undertaking but the end result, the culmination of all of this effort is the field trip. Each time I have been involved with this, I have seen the students REALLY get into their roles.
