We continued with context clues but also went over different text features.  One of the things we went over was that sometimes in a text, a glossary is provided to assist the reader in understanding some of the words that may not be familiar to the average reader.  They overriding author's purpose is actually to make sure that the reader understands what is being written, first and foremost.

Together we used the following sample passage.  The class then, as a review, determined how they would use context clues to find the meaning of the word echolocation as was used in the passage, if the glossary was not available.

The exit ticket was to do the following:

In JA Biztown, groups continued to work on their radio advertisement and then the next thing on the list, which was a newspaper ad.  The ads should get easier since they are basically conveying the same information.
