We continued with our introductory unit on literacy and today’s focus was a short story Thank You, Ma’am, by Langston Hughes.  It was more of a read-along since I had the text on the screen.  I tried to model what good readers by underlining things that were interesting and important.

Examples were:  asking why certain text was italicized (for emphasis), the use of figurative language, etc.

That took up virtually all of the reading portion.  The writing part began a valuable series on ow writers can get ideas.  Since students will be doing a lot of writing, it helps to have strategies on how to get ideas on what to write about if they just can’t think of anything.  Today’s focus was on important people.  We then came up with four bullet points (see presentation)

For science, we continued with the scientific method and inquiry by determining the answer to the following question:  is there a difference in temperature between the core of a mass of Play-Doh and its outer surface?
