We are coming to the end of the second quarter of the year and as of Wednesday, we will officially be at the half-way point in the school year.
The weekly parent email has gone out and is in the archive with the rest. It is interesting to click on a random parent email to read over what was going on. In math, we spent one last day with the focus being on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to improper fractions. On Monday we will begin adding fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators and then cover subtraction. This will be the focus for the rest of what remains of January. Wednesday, February 1st is the mid-year MAP test for math in 4th grade. This is not graded but will instead give an indication of where the student is and where the student will need to go. It is more about measuring growth. I did assign homework and it is due next Friday. Here is another downloadable copy. ![]()

In science we made spectroscopes by using diffraction grating and toilet paper tubes. The diffraction grating splits light into the seven colors of the spectrum and students can see the differences in the rainbows made by fluorescent light vs. natural light.
