In science we did a review warm-up:

Then, we did an experiment to prove that heat transfers from warmer to colder. I began with two styrofoam cups, one filled with cold water and the other filled with hot boiling water. I then placed one end of a u-shaped aluminum bar into the cold water and one into the hot water. Afterwards, a thermometer probe was placed into each cup to take the temperatures of the water. I used a noncontact IR thermometer to measure the temperature of the bar.
What happened is that the temperature of the boiling water started decreasing pretty rapidly along with the temperature of the aluminum bar. The cold water did rise but more slowly since it takes time for the heat to conduct through the aluminum bar.
