We begin a new week and today's focus was comprehensive since tomorrow is the 5th and final math common assessment. The common assessment will be like the End-of-Grade test in which students will have up to four hours to complete the test. It will also have 54 questions on it, which is the same as the EOG coming up in two weeks. Wow! I had to stop and let that one sink in. The year is winding down, that is for certain!
I did emphasize the importance of doing the following:
1) Take your time!
2) Carefully read each problem and circle/underline the numbers and key words. What is it asking?
3) Carefully solve the problem and look at each answer choice.
4) Double check your answer before moving on the next problem.
I say this every year and far more often than not, students choose to not do the last one. It only takes an extra minute and students have plenty of time.
The other thing that I have observed over the years is how many students will rush through the test despite being told all year long to take their time. There is no prize for finishing first and there is certainly nothing to do but sit there. We don't stop until it is either lunch time or everyone has finished. Therefore, students might as well take their time and make certain that they have done their best.
