We begin a new week with conferences starting on Thursday.  As a reminder, please do your best to be on time since my schedule will be very tight on the first few days, many of which have back-to-back conferences both in the morning and afternoon.

Also, if you did sign up for an afternoon conference (between 3:10-4:00) please be aware that traffic gets very heavy as the car rider line builds up.  Getting to a parking spot may be a challenge so plan accordingly.

In literacy, we are continuing with higher level skills.  Wednesday is the literacy common assessment which is set up just like the math and science ones.  Students take the test and those who do not show mastery (80% or higher) will get review (reteach) while those who have shown mastery get enrichment.  Friday will be the retest day for the students who did not show mastery.

In math, we are in the reteach/enrich/retest cycle.  Since all of my class showed mastery, the only way that this affects them is that I might get a few extra students from another 4th grade class so they can participate in the enrichment activities that I have planned.  Today's was adding and subtracting decimals by doing a mock grocery shopping trip.  We will finish it tomorrow and then do some multiplication practice before going over patterns.

In science, we are in the first third of the Matter:  Properties and Change unit.  We are still focusing on the physical properties of matter.  There will be a five or ten question quiz on Thursday and it depends on whether or not the students can login to STEMscopes, which is the science curriculum that we use in 4th grade.  If they can login, they will take the 5 question quiz; if not, the ten question one.  Both are multiple choice.

In social studies we tied in adding and subtracting decimals and whole numbers by doing JA Biztown.  We have been covering checking and savings accounts along with deposits and withdrawals.

Lastly, I have completed the Matter:  Properties and Change study guide. This is an updated version of the one that was given out during Curriculum Night.  You can download it HERE or go to themain page where all of them are kept.  I will be updating the others as the year goes on.
