Today was the day we finished up (just about) everything JA Biztown related. The students did their checkbooks and registers, cleaned up and finished up the packets, and did anything else that needed to be done. Monday is the field trip and then social studies will begin in earnest. Of course, it just wouldn't be science without a warm-up to keep those skills sharp..... Afterwards, we did two things.
1) We made sure the checkbooks, registers, and deposit slips for JA Biztown were updated to include the numbers appropriate to each person's position. 2) We did a science constructed response to practice some writing and critical thinking. "Suppose you have discovered a new and previously unknown mineral. How would you design an experiment to determine its physical properties? (luster, cleavage, hardness, etc.) Write at least two paragraphs explaining your experiment with as much detail as possible. Be sure to write neatly and use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar." Tomorrow we will be finished with JA Biztown and that will be all. I am planning on having a big activity tomorrow which will cover a lot of concepts so there should be some good pictures.
