In science, I did two experiments to demonstrate energy.  The first one demonstrated potential and kinetic energy using something called a Maxwell Wheel.  It is like a yo-yo but has more mass with it being made out of metal.  The wheel is rolled up and held, which is potential energy.  Once released it transfers to kinetic energy and rolls up and down as the energy is discharged.  It also demonstrates that kinetic energy is never greater than the potential energy it came from.
