Tonight is the 3-5 Curriculum Night. There will be a brief PTSA meeting for everyone, members or not, and then as with yesterday evening parents will go and visit the classrooms. I will have a few science demonstrations out for your child to retell some of what was learned so far. Today, the warm-up covered some of the notes that were taken yesterday. Afterwards we reviewed the notes from yesterday before focusing on today's experiment: mineral streak. Each pair of students received a piece of shale and slate, one reddish in color and one grey. They also received a small 2" x 2" piece of ceramic tile that serves as a strike plate. The object was to scratch both minerals on the strike plate enough to leave a powdery line called streak. After doing this the students wrote down in their notebooks a detailed description of each streak's color and texture.
