Today was our mid-year, or winter administration of the MAP test in math. Each student was given a small sheet to glue in their agendas to take home though I did contact each parent individually. Below is the graphic that was projected on the screen throughout the entire testing session Since the MAP test was in session, there was no math instruction. That will resume tomorrow with a continuation of fractions with an emphasis on decomposing fractions. What that means is to take a fraction such as 5/6 and break it down to 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + + 1/6 + 1/6. It is a simple skill and quickly mastered so we will not spend as much time on it. Then we will return to adding and subtracting mixed numbers with a common denominator.
With my second block, we will continue with unlike denominators and I will go over the part with subtraction soon. I am currently working on a practice test for the upcoming math common assessment on the 15th and 16th. In science, the students made mini-posters on the lunar cycle by illustrating each phase and writing a brief description of it. These will be proudly displayed in my room.
