Today was the first of our very short two-day week. Then, we will be off from Wednesday through Friday in celebration of Thanksgiving Break. But, as long as we are here, instruction shall continue..... In literacy, we did two things: continue with their opinion writing and a comprehension activity that involved North Carolina history. Students read a passage called Sequoya's Gift. They then answered comprehension questions. In this case, it involved the use of a skill called Context Clues. When readers are faced with an unknown word in a text, by going back and seeing how it is used.....looking at the words around it, can help discern its meaning without having to resort to a dictionary - not that there is anything wrong with it! ![]()
In science, students took their science test online using Mastery Connect. It consisted of 15 questions that were multiple choice - VERY close to what was on the practice quiz on my Science Launch page. Students were given ample time in the mornings and when finished on other activities to practice it.
