What We Did Today
Today our school taught the Bullying and Harassment lesson that was specific to each grade level. It involved the concepts of personal space, how to deal with someone who violates one's personal space, as well as what is considered to be appropriate. In literacy, we began teaching the literary concept of theme. For many 4th graders, it can be confusing at times to distinguish between theme and main idea. So, students were exposed to two different graphics to help them understand the differences better.
If you look at the one below, you can see how theme is much more broad and general - a much simpler thing! Main idea is far more specific to a particular text.
In science, the students in their groups got right to work to either finish up their team contracts. One thing I did ask was for them to choose just one person on the team to share the common document with me, rather than having 29 individual students send it.
Below is an excellent example of a team contract. The graphic is a screen capture since the text is extensive. I think the first paragraph pretty much says it all......
